The Former President's Framework of Retribution and Reward

Trump's intense appetite for revenge has rapidly evolved into a structured apparatus. Over the twelve months, the president's anger and whims have adopted the guise of government actions in ways reminiscent to earlier authoritarian regimes. Government personnel who do not cooperate are promptly removed and succeeded by loyalists. Opposing figures who confront him encounter indictment, judicial process and sanctions. Adversaries have been labeled under presidential orders as “anti-American”, “against faith communities” and “opposing economic freedom”, and threatened with legal action as “security threats”.

The Justice System Remade

Each instance involving legal action of political opponents and protection for supporters displays its own distinct characteristics. Yet, notwithstanding their individual nature, they represent expressions of what has developed as a deliberate technique. These episodes are not coincidental. The administration's cleansing of Department of Justice prosecutors and Federal Bureau of Investigation officials, coupled with his placement of devotees in senior positions, began swiftly, quickly assumed a pattern, and has now been formed into a regime. The justice department and the Federal Bureau have been remade into partisan agencies under Trump's explicit orders to execute his wishes. Unfairness has been made routine. This is the apparatus of revenge.

Administration is focused with punishing the chief's alleged enemies than they are with protecting our public welfare.

Within the Apparatus

The beginnings of this framework has been exposed in the lawsuit of multiple ex- senior FBI executives lodged in late summer in the judicial system in the capital against top official an administration figure and attorney general Pam Bondi for wrongful dismissal in “a initiative of payback against Plaintiffs for what administration figures judged to be a failure to show adequate devotion”. The document states that a former acting director, the ex- acting FBI director, details a discussion in which Patel “openly acknowledged the illegality of his behavior”.

The official had sought to shield agency personnel from being fired, the filing claims. The director advised him that “White House figures” – perceived by Driscoll to be the presidential administration and federal prosecutors – had ordered him to dismiss everyone who they considered as having worked on a law enforcement case against him. The complaint continues: “Patel clarified that he had to dismiss the people his superiors told him to dismiss, because his ability to retain his own job relied on the removal of the agents who handled investigations involving the leader. Patel noted that there was nothing he or Driscoll could do to halt these or any other terminations, because ‘the FBI sought to put the leader in detention and he hasn't forgotten it.’” Once he informed the director he was disregarding the bureau's own internal rules, the director reportedly said “he knew that and he knew the nature of the summary firings were probably illegal”.

Widespread Effects

After his reported acknowledgment to him, the DoJ and the law enforcement agency have been dismantled and repurposed for Trump's retribution system. Multiple of the bureau's senior executives were dismissed or compelled to leave in the initial period of the administration. Roughly 4,500 professional attorneys at DoJ have taken a “voluntary departure plan”. A minimum of seven federal prosecutors, such as those in the southern district of New York, resigned in protest over what they viewed as partisan influence in withdrawing the corruption case against the city leader, Eric Adams, in as a trade for his collaboration with the administration's ICE arrests of foreign nationals. The public integrity section of DoJ, which manages misconduct investigations, has been diminished to minimal staff. The rights protection unit has been devastated: the majority of its staff has left. 33% of top officials at DoJ have quit. The division implementing environmental law has lost 50% its leadership.

Rewards and Sanctions

In the Adams case, the interim prosecutor for the southern district of New York, she, stepped down in dissent against what she labeled as the “exchange”. The border official, Trump's “immigration leader,” appeared as the enforcer with him on Fox News to state: “If he doesn't come through, I'll be back in NYC.”. Meanwhile, Emil Bove, previously the senior DoJ official and a former Trump attorney, who arranged the arrangement, was granted an judicial position, a potential springboard to the judicial branch.

The president's protection for offenses perpetrated while in power, provided by the extraordinary ruling of the GOP-led on the supreme court, thus blocking his criminal case over the political violence and maintaining his electoral prospects for the 2024 election, is the foundation stone on which he stands to defend his stalwarts. Under these circumstances, he has been freed to permit wrongdoing. The impact of the supreme court decision saturates his government and the GOP thoroughly. The court matter has escalated. In the words of a past leader's administration lawyer he commented about the Watergate
