Critical Role Campaign 4 Reveals the Warriors Party

Since the launch of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a wide array of characters, and a thrilling plot including angels, fiends, and dark forces growing in strength within the city.

Note: Revealing details for Episode 3 of the new season follow below.

The Combat-Oriented Party Revealed

The third episode ended with a dramatic pause and introduced the premier party of adventurers who will branch out from the central cast to begin their independent quest, distinct from the other two tables.

The combat-focused team includes the determined fighter (played by Travis Willingham), the agile character (Laura), Tyranny (Whitney Moore), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (Robbie).

Why Split the Party?

Considering a large ensemble, it was obvious from the outset that keeping everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.

This explains, the initial installments of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, intertwining the personal journeys before dividing into three separate parties: Fighters, Planners, and Explorers.

Characteristics of the Soldiers Table

As described by the DM, the combat-focused party is for participants who enjoy a classically intense combat and conflict-driven story mode where peaceful solutions are rare.

Upon first impression, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might seem mismatched, but the actions of episode 3 demonstrate why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the warrior group.

Motivations for Departure

First, the party understands precisely where to go next after a violent opening clash with the antagonists.

Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose passing initiated the campaign’s events—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, breaking into the secret base, assaulting the rogue, and swiping all the magical artifacts to dispose of.

Casimir then settled his debts and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, north of Dol-Makjar, with Cyd pursuing him.

Individual Reasons

Secondly, each character has a specific drive to exit the urban setting:

  • Thimble, as the close ally and closest confidant, desires retribution.
  • The knowledgeable figure is familiar with the northern area and cautions that it is a dangerous place.
  • Tyranny and The healer, having defied his relatives’ demands to kill the target and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
  • Yet, their status as key figures in the powerful family could assist the group access locations they usually can’t.
  • Furthermore, The grateful character vowed a eternal obligation to Wicander for his rescue and will now go with him anywhere.

Fugitives

Lastly, all of them are hunted by the rulers that rule the setting for a multiple motives, making lingering locally no longer safe:

  • The rogue and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
  • The warrior and Wicander defied the influential house and the legion of demons they are allied with.
  • The fighter is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.

This results in them no alternative but to travel to Timmony in quest for the antagonist.

What’s Next?

From the latest episode’s follow-up content, we find out that the warrior group won’t be around the following episode, leaving the other eight participants to form the Seekers and Schemers groups.

Fans can look forward to finding out which characters will be where in the story’s final introductory chapter, streaming live on next week.
