Chelsea Manager Maresca Rejects Manchester City Links as '100%' Rumour
Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca has branded recent talk connecting him with a return to Manchester City as nothing but hearsay.
The 45-year-old, who previously worked as Pep Guardiola's right-hand man in Manchester, addressed the persistent speculation surrounding his future.
Maresca, named Chelsea boss in the summer of 2024, is under contract that runs through the end of the decade, with a possible extension option.
"It doesn't affect me at all because I know that is 100% speculation," Maresca said. "And at this moment, there is no time for such distractions."
He further elaborated, "First of all, because I have a contract here for several more years. And my focus, I said many times, is solely on this club and I'm honoured to be here. But again, it's speculation. One week ago I was connected to a role in Italy with Juventus. So I ignore it because I know that is not true."
Chelsea, presently placed fourth in the Premier League, are scheduled to face Newcastle United this Saturday in a lunchtime kick-off.
Strain Following Previous Comments
Maresca's latest statement come after he referred to a recent two-day spell as his most difficult since arriving at Chelsea.
Those original remarks had sparked considerable talk of a potential disagreement between the manager and the club's key decision-makers.
When asked if he had since spoken with the Chelsea's sporting directors, Maresca responded, "We are in the same building, so we speak about various topics. But about the post-Everton media session, no."
The Italian did confirm he would definitely remain at the club next season and urged supporters to keep backing the team".
In brighter news, Maresca indicated that injured attackers Liam Delap and Estevao Willian could return sooner than expected, possibly available for a fixture against Aston Villa on 27 December.

The perceived disconnect between Maresca and the Chelsea board remains as an open wound that continues to create unease.
While there has been no deepening of the situation in the open, there has equally been no resolution forthcoming, creating the matter unaddressed.
